Offsite insight for Willmott Dixon and Swansea Uni

25th June 2019
Swansea University Visit Kenfig Factory

Willmott Dixon, one of the UK’s largest construction businesses, sent their newest and brightest to the Wernick Buildings factory to help develop their knowledge of all things modular.

The Management Trainees are the latest to develop a career in construction with Willmott Dixon’s 35-year-old trainee programme. Trainees on the structured, fast-track scheme learn from experts in a wide range of disciplines and specialisms.

The 14 trainees, along with a Quality Manager and a Supply Chain Coordinator, attended a presentation from Wernick Buildings’ Deputy Managing Director Andy King where they learnt about the design, production and sustainability of modular buildings before they were taken on a tour of the factory itself.

Rhys Thomas, Management Trainee at Willmott Dixon Construction Limited commented: “On behalf of Willmott Dixon I wanted to say a huge thank you for yesterday’s factory visit. Everyone I’ve spoken to found the day very engaging and insightful. As up and coming professionals into the industry the visit improved our development and understanding of modular construction.”

We were joined a couple of days later by the project team behind the latest H-shaped teaching block at Swansea’s University’s Bay Campus. The group came to see the building going through the factory – all 60 modules are being constructed at our facility in Port Talbot using our latest building method – Swiftplan®.

Just 11 miles away at the site, groundwork is nearing completion ready for installation. The University team will then have the opportunity to see the modules form a complete building in a couple of days. Read more about the University’s new modular building here.

There’s no better way to learn about offsite construction than seeing the process up close. We are always happy to hear from organisations who are interested in learning about the world of modular construction and all its possibilities.
