DB Cargo underwent a business transformation in 2017. Part of this required decommissioning or reducing occupancy on sites. Some of the traditional brick buildings were oversized for the occupancy and most were expensive to run and maintain. The client decided on a solution to replace the buildings with smaller, cost effective and portable modular buildings or cabins. DB Cargo describes their business needs as “fluid”; their property portfolio needs to be a reflection this.
The client had short timescales to work to and limited budgets. Staff at certain locations required temporary accommodation while work was underway to ensure work continued uninterrupted.

DB Cargo opted to place an order with Wernick Refurbished Buildings as they offered a competitive price. The WRB team took the time to understand what DB Cargo was trying to achieve, taking on board the requirements from DB Cargo following an initial meeting, visiting the sites and speaking with the “guys on the ground”.
Wernick presented DB Cargo with options and solutions to achieve the large number of builds in the timescales. The client describes WRB’s Shahid Hanif as “an extended member of the DB Cargo team”. The relationship has led to further projects, such as rental for refurbishment projects, establishing WRB as the sole provider to DB Cargo. Keeping costs low has also allowed the client to replace more units than originally expected.
