Requirement

JDR Cables is a leading provider of subsea technologies and services for the global offshore energy industry. As part of a major investment in a new cable manufacturing facility at the Port of Blyth, the company required accommodation for office staff, directors and factory operatives.

The project called for a high-quality, building regulations-compliant solution that could provide a range of office and welfare facilities while remaining within budget. Following a referral, JDR Cables selected Wernick Refurbished Buildings based on the quality of the solution, competitive cost and ability to meet the project requirements within the required programme.

  • Client: JDR Cables
  • Location: Bedlington, Northumberland
  • Sector: Industrial / manufacturing
  • Accommodation type: Offices and welfare facilities
  • Building size: 24-module, double storey refurbished modular building

Solution

Wernick Refurbished Buildings delivered a 24-module, double-storey refurbished modular building to provide modern office accommodation and welfare facilities for the new manufacturing site.

The building incorporates office space, meeting rooms, executive accommodation for directors and the business owner, a large staff canteen and welfare facilities including toilets and showers. An executive kitchen was also included within the fit-out.

To create a high-quality internal environment, the building was finished with taped and painted walls in executive areas, upgraded oak-effect flooring and modern IPS panels and vanity units throughout the welfare facilities.

Externally, an aluminium-clad feature entrance was installed in JDR Cables’ corporate colours, creating a distinctive appearance that reflects the company’s brand identity.

By choosing a refurbished modular building, JDR Cables benefited from a sustainable accommodation solution with lower embodied carbon compared to a new modular building, while still achieving the quality, functionality and appearance required for its new facility. The project was completed within four months from order to handover.
