Teesside Gas Processing Plant – Shutdown Accommodation
Requirement
Teesside Gas required temporary accommodation to support two annual shutdowns at its gas processing plant at Seal Sands. The shutdown programme brought more than 200 additional contractors to site, creating a need for additional mess and welfare facilities throughout the works.
With the accommodation positioned within a designated blast zone, standard site cabins were not suitable. The units needed to meet the required blast-resistant specification while providing comfortable, practical facilities for contractors working on site.
Following a site survey and tender process, Wernick Hire was selected based on the compliance and quality of its blast-resistant units, alongside the service and support offered by the team.

Solution
Wernick Hire supplied 24 blast-resistant cabins, providing additional facilities across the site for the shutdown workforce. The units were arranged in a combination of linked complexes and standalone cabins to create a practical layout suited to the different requirements across the plant.
The cabins were supplied with standard internal fit-outs, with air conditioning provided throughout the accommodation apart from the changing facilities. This was particularly important during the summer shutdown period, helping to provide a comfortable environment for contractors using the facilities.
Wernick worked closely with the client from the initial site survey through to installation. Communication and organisation were maintained throughout the process, while the installation team adapted efficiently on site to ensure the accommodation was installed safely and within the required timeframe.
The cabins were to a very high standard and complied with the required blast rating. Wernick provided excellent communication from the initial survey through to installation, and the team delivered everything safely and on time. We would be happy to use Wernick Hire again.
