Harrogate Hospital Site Accommodation

Requirement

Morgan Sindall required high-quality, on-site accommodation to support the delivery of a new healthcare facility at Harrogate Hospital. Procured through the NHS England Procure23 (P23) National Framework, the two-storey permanent development will house operating theatres, procedure rooms, an advanced imaging department, and a day ward — all to boost patient capacity in Harrogate and the wider region.

To facilitate this, Wernick Hire was appointed to supply a three-storey modular building for use by both the main contractor and subcontractors, providing essential welfare and office space throughout the 90-week programme. Due to the tight footprint of the site, the accommodation had to be compact, multi-storey, and meet stringent fire safety standards — making FMflex, Wernick’s fire-rated modular solution, the ideal choice.

  • Project name: Harrogate Hospital Site Accommodation
  • Location: Harrogate Hospital, North Yorkshire
  • Sector: Healthcare Construction
  • Client: Morgan Sindall
  • Accommodation Type: FMflex
  • Number of Modules: 15 (5 on 5 on 5)

Solution

Wernick Hire provided a bespoke FMflex modular complex comprising 15 units across three storeys. The FMflex units provided the necessary fire compliance while offering a warm and comfortable working environment.

Internally, the layout supported day-to-day site operations with:

  • Ground floor: Canteen, male and female changing facilities, and toilets

  • First floor: Open-plan office, meeting room, reception, and toilets

  • Second floor: Open-plan office, additional office, meeting room, reception, and toilets

Externally, the building was finished in Morgan Sindall’s livery and featured a bespoke three-storey staircase.

Given the restricted access and live hospital environment, the installation was carefully planned over multiple team meetings and site visits. The entire building was successfully delivered and installed over a single weekend, using specialist MEWPs to accommodate the tight access and ensure continued hospital car park use.

The FMflex units are excellent — well insulated, high-spec, and aligned with our sustainability goals. The team managed a tight, challenging site with real professionalism and delivered the project smoothly. I’d happily recommend Wernick for future work.
