Glasgow University
Requirement
Glasgow University is undergoing a huge redevelopment project. With £1 billion due to be invested over the next ten years, it’s set to be the biggest education infrastructure projects in Scotland’s history.
Global contractor Multiplex were appointed Programme Delivery Partner, taking responsibility for construction, refurbishment, landscaping and other related tasks that promise to have a transformative effect on both the University and the local community.
- Project name: Glasgow University Innovation Centre
- Sector: Construction
- Location: Glasgow
- Client name: Multiplex
- Supplied by: Wernick Hire
- Accommodation type: Three buildings, each with three storeys
- Size: 84 modules total
- Features: Office space, canteen, toilets, drying rooms
Solution
Multiplex approached Wernick Hire to provide them with site accommodation; requiring canteens, toilets, drying rooms and enough office space to accommodate Multiplex, their client and their subcontractors.
The space was delivered across three buildings, each with three storeys. The first building had two floors providing canteen space, drying rooms and toilets, with the third storey dedicated to subcontractor offices. The second of the AVflex® buildings was dedicated entirely to Multiplex and University office space. The third building was a longer-term office block delivered using Wernick’s PMflex® system.
While a number of factors presented some challenges to the project, including bad weather delaying the craning, Wernick were able to complete the project on time even with additional works and alterations requested by the client as the project progressed.
This was a huge project for the depot and it will stand out as one of my greatest achievements with Wernick. The results speak for themselves: the client has a robust set-up which will safely and comfortably serve hundreds of staff for the next few years!
