Colyton Grammar School

Requirement

Colyton Grammar School, known for its academic excellence, faced a significant challenge when Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) was discovered in one of their buildings, raising safety concerns. The school urgently needed additional, safe learning spaces after closing a classroom and toilet facility. To address these issues, the school sought a rapid deployment of high-quality modular buildings that could seamlessly integrate with their existing infrastructure.

After considering several modular building providers, Colyton Grammar School chose Wernick Hire as the preferred supplier, trusting them to deliver a solution that met their immediate needs.

Solution

Wernick Hire promptly responded to Colyton Grammar School’s urgent requirement by delivering a modular classroom block consisting of 10 PMFlex units, including a science lab, prep room, and a drama studio. The project was completed in two phases: Phase 1 focused on meeting the time-sensitive needs for GCSE drama, and Phase 2 completed the rest of the modular facilities.

Utilising offsite construction methods, Wernick Hire manufactured the units away from the school premises, minimising disruption. The modular units were delivered and installed during the half-term break, ensuring that the new facilities were fully operational when students returned.

The modular classroom block includes 3 modules specifically dedicated to classroom, cloakroom, and toilet facilities, with 2 external modules for male and female toilets. These units provided safe, modern, and functional spaces that allowed the school to continue its academic term without interruption.

Praised for their politeness, support, and willingness to answer questions, the construction staff served as excellent role models for the students.

The construction staff were incredibly polite and support, and willing to answer questions. They were a great model for our students in seeing how hard people work.
