Co-op Academy Failsworth is a secondary school catering to students aged 11 to 16.
In 2019, Portable Building Sales, a sister company of Wernick Refurbished Buildings, installed ‘Hub 1’ to accommodate students who required learning outside of the typical classroom environment. Due to expansion the school required additional teaching space.
Failsworth approached Wernick addressing their expanding requirements. The new building ‘Hub 2’ was tasked to not only provide additional classroom space but also integrate specialised facilities such as food tech and science classrooms to provide greater learning opportunities for the students.

Solution
During the assessment of the site, it was discovered that a significant main sewer line intersected the initially proposed location for the new building. Collaborating closely with United Utilities, an alternative site was identified to ensure compliance and to optimise the positioning for the school’s benefit.
As a full turnkey package provider, Wernick managed all aspects of the project, including planning, groundwork, refurbishment and compliance with building regulations.
Internally, the refurbished building features various classroom spaces, a toilet facility, a dedicated food technology area and a science laboratory, all designed to cater to the diverse educational needs of the students.
Working with Andy and the team at Wernick has been fantastic. The service provided for ‘Hub 1’ a few years ago, to ‘Hub 2’ more recently has been exceptional. We are over the moon with the buildings as they have really enhanced the facilities at the school for the students who require outside the normal classroom environment learning.
