Requirement

Moulton School and Science College, a high school and sixth-form institution located in the north of Northampton, faced a growing student population and urgently required additional teaching space. To accommodate the expansion, the school sought a modular classroom solution that could be delivered and installed before the start of the academic year.

Following a search for modular building providers online, the school chose Wernick Refurbished Buildings due to the high quality of its modular units and its reputation for excellent customer service.

The four modules used to create the new classroom originated from a former Rolls-Royce site. These modules were initially purchased from a competitor before Wernick acquired the site, which included 86 modular bays. Four of these bays were carefully refurbished and repurposed for Moulton School’s classroom project.

Solution

Wernick provided a comprehensive, turnkey solution for the project, managing every stage from design and refurbishment to groundworks and installation. The final modular building comprised four interconnected bays, forming a fully equipped single classroom with integrated toilet facilities.

Transporting the building to Moulton School presented some logistical challenges. Due to its size and dimensions, the delivery required a police escort to ensure safe passage through local roads. Once on-site, a temporary trackway was installed to protect the school field and allow the modules to be moved into position efficiently.

The building’s exterior was enhanced with timber cladding, blending seamlessly with the surrounding environment while offering a modern aesthetic.

This project showcases how refurbished modular buildings can be adapted to meet the demands of modern education. From sourcing and refurbishing the modules to overcoming logistical challenges, our team delivered a classroom space that meets Moulton School’s needs while aligning with their timeline and budget.
