The 2018 Wernick Hire Seminar took place on Friday the 8th of June. With over 100 delegates from throughout the Wernick Group, the Seminar presents a great opportunity for staff from different departments, and different parts of the company to meet.

The day began with Group Chairman David Wernick discussing the Group’s core values, which include excellence, simplicity and safety. David’s presentation was followed by a review of Wernick Hire since the last seminar, hosted by Deputy Managing Directors Darren Brown and Jonathan Wernick. The wide ranging presentation not only covered the healthy financial performance of Hire, but also detailed the contributions different departments and other Group companies have made to Wernick Hire in the past two years.

Darren and Jonathan then handed over to guest speaker Marcus Child, whose infectious energy carried delegates through to lunch. Marcus has been speaking to business leaders for 22 years, inspiring personal confidence, positive colleague relationships and healthy corporate cultures. His seminar talk focused on the idea of needing to look after yourself before you can look after your customers, and the extent to which positive thinking can make a difference.

This sunny attitude was reflected in the afternoon’s weather, which was lucky for delegates as they gathered on the lawn for team building exercises. Tasks included having to construct and race a chariot; using logic puzzles to open a suitcase with the key to eternal life; welly throwing; and taking on the role of a table football player. Teams competed against each other as they rotated through each task, with team ‘Turkey Lurkeys’ declared the ultimate winners of the afternoon.

The evening was a black tie event that began with a quiz on the cryptic team names, which also included ‘Mufasas’ and ‘Chip n Dales’. No doubt team ‘Dipsticks’ in particular could better enjoy the dinner that followed knowing that the team names were actually clues to the names of Disney films.

The 2018 award ceremony followed dinner, recognising the achievements of regions, depots and individual staff members within Wernick Hire. After the awards, delegates could try their luck at the blackjack and roulette tables that were set up in the hall.

The event was well received by all, with one delegate commenting “It was outstanding from start to finish. I thoroughly enjoyed the video followed by Darren and Jonathan’s speech; it made me feel extremely proud to be part of this company. Marcus’s speech was inspirational and motivational and the team games were fun and really brought everyone together.”

Jonathan Wernick commented “I think we can all look back at the event and say it was a massive success. Feedback has been excellent and I thank everyone for making it such a great event. Our challenge now is to make it even better in 2020.”
