Wernick Help Fund Forte Forest for Treloar’s Trust

28th September 2017

Treloar is a School and Trust which provides education, pastoral care, medical support and independence for young people with complex physical disabilities. Their aim is to prepare these young people for adult life, giving them the confidence and skills to achieve their full potential.

Based in Hampshire, they work in three main areas; a non-maintained nursery, a school and a college.

The Wernick Group has provided over £30,000 of support to Treloar in the last 3 years. These donations have been used to fund a variety of resources for the School, including a number of mini-libraries for reading spaces, a visual impairment advisor to assist visually impaired students and most recently financial help towards the school’s new Forte Forest; an outdoor musical area. Group Chairman David Wernick recently attended the grand opening, watching Head Girl Phoebe cut the ribbon to the new area with the assistance of the Lady Mayoress of the City of London.

The unique new Forte Forest houses outdoor musical instruments designed to encourage interaction. The musical instruments have been carefully designed to benefit both motor skills and physiotherapy programmes. Wernick Group donations were used to purchase the floor piano, which students can drive over with their wheelchairs to make music. Mainstream schools will be encouraged to stop by to make music alongside Treloar’s students and learn more about disability and inclusion.

Jocelyn Watkins, Head of School Music, summed up the impact of the new scheme: “We are delighted to have our new outdoor musical instrument area and Treloar’s students will benefit from the opportunities that these bring, both in exploring the world and expressing their emotions though such an immediate form of communication.  We are truly grateful to those who made this possible, in particular The Friends of Treloar’s, Lucy & David Wernick and Tesco, through their Bags of Help community donations. “
