Sustainability award for education building
We are delighted to announce that the sustainability prize at this year’s Education Buildings Wales awards event was given to the ‘Active Office’ – a building which was manufactured offsite by Wernick Buildings.
The ‘Innovation in Delivering a Sustainable Education Facility’ award was taken home by SPECIFIC Innovation and Knowledge Centre – the team behind the ground-breaking building at Swansea University, which can generate, store and release its own solar energy.
Wernick Buildings partnered with SPECIFIC who, following extensive, research concluded that modular construction offered the consistency, flexibility and reliability required to deliver the project on time and on budget.
A trophy was collected at the glittering, black-tie event by Joanna Clarke, Architect and Ella Newington, Digital Marketing Officer for SPECIFIC.
Joanna commented: “This honour is a wonderful way to mark the anniversary of the Active Office’s official opening. This award recognises the efforts we are making in this field and is the result of ongoing collaborations and partnership working. We are thrilled that the judges have chosen to honour us.”
Stuart Wilkie, Managing Director at Wernick Buildings added: “Education Buildings Wales opened this category for the first time this year and it is with great pride that a modular building from Wernick caught the judges’ attention. We hope this shows that modular buildings are not only a viable alternative for the education sector but a forward-looking, sustainable one too.”
The building was funded by Innovate UK and sponsored by Tata Steel and Cisco.
