David Wernick Appears on Radio 4’s Today Programme.
Wernick Group Chairman talks business and Brexit on Radio 4.
BBC Radio 4’s Today Programme recently ran a feature on businesses in Essex and their financial forecasts in advance of the Autumn Statement. Reporter Nick Robinson headed to Essex, where the present Chancellor began his working life buying and selling second hand cars, to speak to business owners in the area. This included a visit to Wickford to speak to Wernick Group Chairman, David Wernick.
Visiting a series of businesses; from food and spice importers, car dealerships to hairdressers even the owner of a pilates company; Nick asks for opinions on the forthcoming budget, and the implications it might have on businesses.
In his interview, David urged the Chancellor to “cheer up” in his forthcoming statement, saying; “He should be talking up the British economy and looking to the positives of things like Brexit…. talking about the opportunities it offers us.” David also speculated that the language of doom and gloom often causes cautious financial behaviour from businesses and can create a self-fulfilling prophecy in terms of creating recession.
The interview was recorded the day before the broadcast, when Nick Robinson visited the Wernick Group head-quarters in Wickford to meet David and be taken on a tour of the premises. Recordings of work taking place in the Wickford yard appeared at the start and the end of the segment.
