The Grand National – RestPod Accommodation

Requirement

Each year, the Grand National welcomes thousands of spectators and hundreds of staff, crew, and stable hands for one of the UK’s most iconic sporting events. With many team members working long hours across the build, live, and de-rig phases, and with limited off-site options, on-site accommodation was essential to support operational continuity and welfare.

The Jockey Club required high-quality sleeper units with en-suite facilities to accommodate stable hands and other essential crew. These units needed to provide both comfort and privacy to help teams stay focused, well-rested, and on-hand throughout the demanding schedule.

  • Project name: The Grand National – RestPod Accommodation
  • Location: Aintree Racecourse, Liverpool
  • Sector: Events, Sports
  • Client: The Jockey Club
  • Accommodation Type: RestPods, showers, toilets, offices

Solution

Wernick Events supplied a full accommodation setup, including 43 RestPods featuring private shower, toilet, and twin sleeping compartments. All units were installed in just two days, despite strict access controls and a phased schedule dictated by the event site.

This was the first year Wernick’s own RestPods were used at the Grand National, offering a higher level of comfort and privacy for stable hands and crew compared to traditional sleeping accommodation.

Over the full three-week installation period, Wernick coordinated closely with site teams to ensure the pods were positioned and powered in line with event logistics and welfare plans. Additional portable toilets, showers, and office cabins were also supplied as part of the broader event infrastructure.

The RestPods were a brilliant solution, comfortable, private, and well-received by everyone who used them. The Wernick team were proactive, flexible, and always calm under pressure, even when our plans changed at the last minute. It’s great to have a supplier we can rely on for an event of this scale.
