Helen Young
How did you start your journey at Wernick, and what led you from a Hire Coordinator role to Regional Sales Manager?
My journey at Wernick began as a Hire Coordinator, where I focused on understanding our products and building strong relationships with customers. I was driven by a passion for the industry and a desire to support our team’s success. Over time, I took on additional responsibilities, sought out ways to enhance processes, and consistently aimed to deliver exceptional customer service. This proactive approach, combined with my ability to identify sales opportunities, was recognised by my managers. After seven years and a series of roles, including Senior Hire Coordinator and Assistant Depot Manager, I was promoted to Regional Sales Manager. Each step has been a blend of hard work, continuous learning, and commitment to delivering value to our clients.
What attracted you to Wernick and the hire industry in the first place?
The dynamic nature of the hire industry immediately drew me in. Wernick’s strong reputation for quality and service resonated with my values of reliability and customer focus. I was also excited by the challenge of addressing clients’ needs with innovative solutions. Being part of a team that has a real, tangible impact on a wide range of projects across various sectors has been incredibly rewarding.
What do you enjoy most about your current role, and what’s a typical day like for you?
The most enjoyable part of my role as a Regional Sales Manager is connecting with clients and understanding their unique needs. I love the strategic side of developing sales plans and working closely with my team to meet our targets. A typical day involves a mix of client and team meetings, reviewing sales performance, planning outreach strategies, and analysing market trends to stay competitive. I also spend time mentoring my team, ensuring they have the resources and support to thrive. The variety keeps things engaging and allows me to stay closely connected to both our clients and my team.
Is there a project or achievement here you’re especially proud of?
I’m particularly proud of a project where we successfully deployed six blast units for a client with very specific requirements. Coordinating closely with our team and the client, we ensured everything met their needs and timelines precisely. This project required meticulous planning and involved collaboration with departments from logistics to technical support. Delivering on time and to the client’s satisfaction reinforced our reputation for reliability and highlighted the strength of teamwork and communication. It was a proud moment for everyone involved and truly demonstrated what we can achieve together.
How would you describe the culture at Wernick, and what’s helped you grow the most in your career here?
Wernick’s culture is all about collaboration, support, and innovation. There’s a strong focus on teamwork and open communication, which creates an environment where everyone feels valued. What’s helped me grow the most has been the mentorship and encouragement from leadership and colleagues alike. Whether through training programs or opportunities to take on new responsibilities, I’ve always felt supported in my professional development, making my journey here truly rewarding.
What’s one lesson you’ve learned that you think everyone should know?
Adaptability is key. In our fast-paced industry, change is constant, whether it’s market trends, customer needs, or internal processes. Embracing change rather than resisting it opens up new opportunities and innovations. Being open to feedback and willing to adjust has been crucial for my growth, both personally and professionally. This mindset is beneficial for anyone, no matter their role or industry.
What advice would you give to someone starting out at Wernick?
Embrace every opportunity to learn and grow. Don’t hesitate to ask questions—curiosity is essential to understanding our business and honing your skills. Take time to build relationships across departments; collaboration is at the core of our success. Be proactive in seeking feedback, and look for ways to contribute beyond your immediate role. Lastly, maintain a positive attitude and be open to change. Enjoy the journey, and remember that patience and persistence will support you as you develop your career.
What are you looking forward to in your future with the company?
I’m excited to continue driving growth and innovation at Wernick. There’s great potential to expand our market presence and enhance our services, and I’m thrilled to be part of that journey. I’m also looking forward to exploring new technologies and strategies to improve operations and customer experience. Additionally, I’m eager to mentor emerging talent and help cultivate the next generation of leaders. With our strong culture and teamwork, I believe we have an incredible future ahead.
