Wernick factory implements solar panel installation to support net zero goals

17th December 2024

Wernick Buildings recently completed the installation of 264 new solar panels on the roof of their Kenfig factory, advancing their commitment to sustainability and helping achieve their net zero goal by 2040.

This new system will generate approximately 117,000 kWh of electricity annually, 95% of which will be consumed directly by the factory. Combined with the existing solar setup, the factory now has the capacity to produce 158,000 kWh per year, meeting 24% of its total energy needs and reducing carbon emissions by 22.7 tCO₂e per annum.

Completed smoothly within three weeks, the factory has immediately begun contributing clean, renewable energy to support Wernick’s operations. Besides powering up a busy manufacturing facility, the solar installation will also provide power for the onsite plug-in electric car charging points.

This is the largest solar installation we have completed across the Group, and it demonstrates our commitment to our net zero roadmap. Partnering with SolarCentric, a local SME, has allowed us to support regional businesses while advancing our sustainability goals. The system is projected to pay for itself in just two years and is a significant step toward electrifying our fleet and increasing renewable energy production across our sites.
