Wernick Donates Modules to Veterans’ Contact Point

The Veterans’ Contact Point (VCP) in Nuneaton supports veterans and their families in Warwickshire, Coventry & Solihull. The centre helps veterans transition to civilian life.

The VCP had been based out of a building that was formally part of a primary school. It was run down, draughty and had no disabled access. When a meeting of local organisations proposed an upgrade to the building, a representative of Balfour Beatty identified the possibility of helping improve the centre through their ‘Giving Back’ initiative.

The idea was for Balfour Beatty to work closely with both Warwickshire County Council and supply chain partners to reconfigure and refurbish the VCP to create a more functional and inviting space for veterans. The new facility would include: a reception area, three new private meeting rooms, a larger main meeting room, a kitchen area, segregated toilets plus a disabled toilet with a shower facility.

Balfour Beatty approached Wernick to help with the VCP’s reconfiguration, and Wernick was happy to donate the modular units that formed the foundation of the building’s extension. Balfour Beatty’s North and Midlands Operations Manager, Jwerea Malik said: “Oh behalf of Balfour Beatty, I would like to thank Wernick for their support on this project. From donating the extension to working closely with the team from design through to install, Wernick’s contribution was invaluable.”

Len Hardy, manager of the VCP said: “We now have a purpose-built, refurbished building that is designed specifically to serve veterans and the local community. The increased capacity and new, private meeting rooms mean we can hold confidential conversations with people who need our help. The new facility will significantly change the service we can offer for the better.”
