Wernick Buildings wins £8.2m Project for Queen Alexandra Hospital

27th August 2021

The two-storey building in Portsmouth provides additional bed space and is scheduled for completion at the end of 2021.

Wernick worked closely with Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust and its Stakeholders to develop a full turnkey solution created around their new HMflex system which compliments the existing surrounding buildings.

On-site groundwork for the project commenced in March 2021 and delivery of the 77 building modules, including a link bridge to the main hospital, began in early July.  The project will be handed over to the client in two phases with the building being fully occupied in December 2021.

The HMflex system is designed to provide a HBN and HTM compliant modular solution for the healthcare setting; allowing clients to bring standardised modules together to meet their bespoke requirements.

Wernick were able to demonstrate a fully fitted out 4-bed ward comprising of two modules to the client. These units have subsequently been lifted into place at Queen Alexandra Hospital.

Managing Director of Wernick Buildings, Stuart Wilkie, commented: “We are pleased to have worked with Portsmouth Hospitals University Trust in providing a modular building which integrates seamlessly to the existing traditionally built complex using our HMflex product.”

Director of Estates for Portsmouth Hospitals University Trust, Mark Neal, commented: “A collaborative approach was used to develop the design of the new facility at Queen Alexandra Hospital. Externally, the new building complements the existing facilities on-site by utilising Wernick’s HMflex building system. The new facility means that Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust can effectively meet the increase in demand for additional bed space for Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight.”
