Anne-Marie – Labourer

Wernick is proud to celebrate Anne-Marie O’Kelly, Labourer, a valued member of the team at Wernick Refurbished Buildings in York. As a Labourer, Anne-Marie plays an important role in bringing builds to completion, helping with snagging, cleaning and preparing buildings to be wrapped up and delivered.

Anne-Marie’s role involves a variety of practical tasks, including working at height to carry out fittings and help prepare buildings for completion. As part of her ongoing development, Anne-Marie recently completed Skyjack scissor lift training, giving her the skills and confidence to safely operate the equipment required for her role.

As the only female working in the factory, Anne-Marie says she has always felt supported and welcomed by the team. She values the open and approachable working environment at Wernick, where she feels comfortable raising any questions, concerns or requests and knows the team will listen and provide support where needed.

“I felt very supported by the team. If there’s anything I need or I feel like there might be a lack of facilities or anything, I’d be happy to approach them, I have done that before and it’s been sorted out for me.”

Having previously worked shifts, Anne-Marie has embraced the Monday-to-Friday routine at Wernick. Drawing on her own experience, she encourages those considering a career in the industry to develop practical skills wherever possible, recommending college or night school as a good way to build confidence and gain a strong foundation of knowledge. She believes that having these skills can help those starting out feel more prepared and confident when entering the workplace.

Anne-Marie’s experience highlights the supportive culture at Wernick and the opportunities available for people to develop their skills and build a rewarding career within the construction industry.

“It’s really nice to be part of a family-run company. I’ve never worked for a smaller company before and I’ve always worked shifts rather than Monday to Friday. Being part of a family-run business feels different, it feels more personal and meaningful.”
