ISO14001 is at present the highest award available in the UK for environmental management systems and is used by a quarter of a million businesses worldwide. The certification holds a business’ environmental
management systems to an international standard, requiring that companies use resources efficiently and minimise waste production. Achieving the accreditation also requires a commitment to continual improvement to EMS systems. The certifications are awarded for a 3 year period, subject to annual reviews.
The Forest Stewardship Council® certification certifies the use of sustainably sourced timber in the production process. A minimum of 70% of the timber used throughout the construction process must be sourced from FSC® approved sustainable forests in order to meet this certification. The FSC certification is one of the highest environmental standards for timber in the UK, and ensures the protection of forests into the future.
The Railway Industry Supplier Qualification Scheme is designed to be the point of entry for all suppliers to the rail industry. The certification shows any supplier to railway construction to be a competent, capable supplier of products and services. The RISQS is supported by the Rail Safety and Standards Board, making it a certification “by the industry, for the industry”.
This certification scheme provides an ongoing, independent, third party assessment of an individual’s competence to use software tools to calculate building CO2 emission rates. Knowledge of the appropriate requirements from Part L of the Building Regulations is also evaluated. The certification is maintained and held in force through annual submission of information and data.
