South Gloucestershire Council – Frog Lane Compound

Requirement

South Gloucestershire Council required temporary site accommodation and power facilities to support the delivery of new cycling infrastructure across the Bristol area. The Frog Lane compound in Frampton Cotterell formed part of the council’s wider programme of works, providing a base for personnel working on the project.

The council needed practical, high-quality accommodation alongside a reliable and more sustainable power supply to support daily site operations. Having previously worked with Wernick on similar projects, the council was looking for a coordinated solution that could bring together accommodation, sleeping facilities and temporary power.

With an established working relationship already in place, Wernick was selected for its ECO accommodation and hybrid power offering, alongside the convenience of sourcing multiple services through one supplier.

  • Location: South Gloucestershire
  • Sector: Infrastructure / Local Authorities

  • Supplied by: Wernick Hire, Wernick Power Solutions and Wernick Events
  • Accommodation type: GreenSpace cabins and RestPod accommodation
  • Additional services: Generator, battery storage, solar power, fuel management and Wi-Fi

Solution

Wernick Hire supplied a combination of 32ft GreenSpace ECO cabins, arranged as linked accommodation to provide practical facilities for the project team. Wernick Events also supplied RestPod sleeping accommodation, offering an additional on-site facility for personnel.

Wi-Fi connectivity was provided through Wernick Hire Total, supporting the operational requirements of the compound.

Working alongside Wernick Hire and Wernick Events, Wernick Power Solutions delivered a hybrid temporary power package comprising:

  • 60kVA generator

  • 45kWh VoltBank Battery Storage Unit

  • SolarFrame

  • 3,000-litre fuel tank with fuel management

The hybrid setup combined generator power with battery storage and solar generation to provide a more efficient power solution for the compound. By coordinating the accommodation and power requirements across the three divisions, Wernick provided a collaborative service that simplified procurement and site setup for the council.

The project also demonstrated the benefits of the hybrid system, with the July 2026 sustainability performance report recording the following results:

£5,765

Estimated cost savings

15,104 kg

CO₂e emissions avoided

4,629 L

Fuel saved

97%

Silent running

The report also recorded 720 hours of silent operation and 699kWh of solar generation, highlighting the benefits of combining battery storage and solar technology with conventional generator power.

Frog Lane represents the third site setup delivered for South Gloucestershire Council as part of the wider programme. The ongoing collaboration demonstrates how Wernick’s divisions can work together to provide accommodation, welfare and power solutions through a single supplier.
