What is Stage V legislation?
Stage V is the name of a set of emissions regulations introduced by the EU to make engines used in machinery, like generators, much cleaner. The goal is simple, less air pollution and better environmental performance.
Stage V is the most advanced standard yet. It focuses on cutting down harmful gases like:
- Nitrogen oxides (NOx)
- Particulate matter (PM)
- Carbon monoxide (CO)
- Hydrocarbons (HC)
Why are Stage V generators better?
Lower emissions
Stage V generators produce far fewer pollutants than Stage III, with some emissions cut by over 90%, contributing to better air quality.
Fuel efficient
Thanks to better engine design and cleaner combustion, Stage V units often use less fuel, meaning lower running costs over time.
HVO fuel
Our Stage V generators can run on HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil), a renewable diesel alternative that can cut carbon emissions by up to 90% compared to standard red diesel.
Quieter operation
Stage V generators are generally quieter than older models, making them ideal for noise-sensitive environments.
Future proof
With emission rules getting stricter every year, Stage V ensures you stay compliant with current and upcoming legislation, including clean air zones and local site requirements.
How is Wernick helping customers go greener?
Since 2021, we’ve been investing in more sustainable generators, starting with the introduction of Stage V 18kVA and 40kVA alongside our existing Stage III fleet. By 2025, our Stage V offering has grown significantly, with current models at 18kVA, 40kVA, 60kVA, 100kVA, 150kVA, 200kVA, 300kVA, and 550kVA. This ensures we can deliver low-emission power across a wide range of applications.
We’re also committed to supporting the UK Government’s Net Zero by 2050 target, but as a business, we’ve set our own goal to be Net Zero by 2040.
