Waste Compound at North Manchester General Hospital
Requirement
Following the relocation of the Waste Compound at North Manchester General Hospital (NMGH), new welfare facilities were required to support staff working on-site.
Recom Solutions, a consulting and construction company working on behalf of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, was appointed to oversee the development. They approached Wernick Refurbished Buildings through a tender process initiated by our sister company, Wernick Hire.
The project called for a high-quality, fully compliant welfare facility that would meet the Trust’s standards and provide a comfortable, functional environment for staff.
- Client name: Recom Solutions on behalf of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust
- Project name: NMGH Waste Compound
- Sector: Healthcare
- Location: Manchester
- No. of modules: 1 cabin
- Accommodation type: Welfare facility
Solution
Wernick Refurbished Buildings supplied and installed a refurbished modular welfare facility designed to accommodate the daily needs of the Waste Compound team.
The single-unit cabin was refurbished to a high standard and fitted out with:
- Accessible shower
- Cleaning store
- Accessible WC
- Comms room
- Drying area
- Office space
- Kitchenette with small canteen area
Externally, the building features a durable Dura Clad composite finish and wrapped windows, providing both a professional aesthetic and long-term weather protection.
The project was delivered within a two-week installation programme. Despite several challenges, including alterations to the electrical design to meet the Trust’s specific M&E requirements, a one-month delivery delay caused by external site factors and rescheduled service connection dates, the Wernick team worked collaboratively with the client to maintain project progress. Recom Solutions also undertook their own groundworks, which required close coordination between all parties to ensure a seamless installation.
Through proactive communication and flexible project management, Wernick Refurbished Buildings successfully delivered a high-quality welfare facility that met both the client’s and the Trust’s expectations.
This project is a great example of how refurbished modular buildings can deliver high-quality, bespoke facilities in a short timeframe. The result is a modern, practical welfare space that provides a comfortable environment for staff and demonstrates the flexibility and value of refurbished modular solutions.
