Challenge

Momentm Health is a consultant-led diagnostics provider in South Cambridgeshire, offering advanced imaging services, including MRI, to both self-pay and insured patients.

MRI scanners have complex power demands, which can be broken into two main components. Firstly, there’s a continuous load from background infrastructure such as lighting, office equipment, and HVAC systems. Secondly, and more critically, the scanner itself creates short bursts of high-power during scanning. Any temporary power solution must be capable of meeting these peak demands. When diesel generators are used, they must be significantly oversized to cope with these dynamic spikes, leading to inefficiencies, higher costs and greater environmental impact.

Due to limited existing infrastructure at the site, Momentm Health required an upgraded power supply that would meet regulatory standards and support the advanced demands of MRI operations without relying on traditional diesel generation.

Solution

To deliver a tailored power solution, Wernick conducted a series of detailed technical and planning meetings with the Momentm Health team. This collaborative approach helped define the project’s specific requirements. A rigorous depot testing day allowed Momentm to observe equipment performance across a variety of simulated scenarios, providing confidence in the selected solution.

As a result, Wernick provided a Flybrid unit in combination with a custom-built DS2 power distribution board. The Flybrid system efficiently delivers high bursts of power on demand, significantly reducing the need for a constantly running diesel generator.
