Bristol Airport

Requirement

As part of Bristol Airport’s long-term growth strategy to increase capacity from 10 million to 12 million passengers per year, additional boarding gates were required to support terminal expansion. The airport needed a fast, efficient, and low-disruption solution to deliver new dispatch facilities capable of accommodating larger A321 aircraft, while maintaining full airport operations. Working in the heart of an active airfield, the project demanded careful coordination, strict security compliance, and minimal impact on passengers and airline partners — all within a tight timeframe ahead of the next summer travel season.

Solution

To meet these requirements, Wernick Buildings supplied a two-storey modular facility providing three new boarding gates, each designed to serve up to 230 passengers. The modular approach allowed construction to progress rapidly, with modules delivered and installed to exacting standards and on schedule. Collaboration between Wernick and Bristol Airport’s team ensured a smooth installation process, delivering a high-quality building that provides step-free access, comfortable passenger waiting areas, and efficient connectivity to walkways and immigration facilities. The airport praised the speed and precision of the modular build, noting that future projects could benefit from even more factory-based fit-out to further reduce on-site disruption — reinforcing modular construction as a highly effective solution for live airfield environments.

We are really happy with the product and we are really happy with how it turned out - modular is definitely the way to go with boarding gates on live airfields.
