Woodville Primary School

Requirement

Following the discovery of RAAC and asbestos in the roof of the existing school building, The Chelmsford Learning Partnership Trust needed urgent temporary accommodation to safely house pupils and staff ahead of the 2025 school year.

Acting on behalf of the trust, Archer Building Consultancy approached Wernick Hire to deliver a full modular school solution, with the entire installation needing to take place over the summer holiday window. With time and access both restricted, the programme demanded careful coordination and a proven ability to deliver at scale, at speed.

  • Project name: Woodville Primary School
  • Sector: Education
  • Client: Archer Building Consultancy
  • End User: The Chelmsford Learning Partnership Trust
  • Accommodation Type: PMflex
  • Number of Modules: 74 modules
  • Programme Length: 52 weeks

Solution

Wernick Hire delivered a 74-module PMflex complex, linked via 6 connecting corridors and completed in just 11 weeks, ready for the September term. The accommodation included:

  • Classrooms for reception, infant and junior pupils

  • SEN rooms

  • Teaching offices

  • A staffed reception area

  • Three internal staircases

  • Full washroom provision

  • A platform lift for accessibility

The buildings featured a white plastisol external finish with orange external doors, providing a clean, bright appearance in keeping with the school’s setting.

Despite restricted site access and an accelerated programme, the installation was delivered successfully through extended working hours and weekend labour. The result was a fully functional, high-quality temporary school that exceeded the expectations of both consultants and teaching staff.

All construction works, including groundworks, building assembly, and internal fit-out were carried out by Wernick’s own in-house construction team, ensuring consistency, quality, and tight programme control.

For a temporary building, the quality is excellent, bright, airy, clean and safe. The staff have even said they’d like to keep it as their permanent school. Wernick’s team worked efficiently and cleanly, and any challenges were resolved before they even reached me. I’d have no hesitation in recommending Wernick Hire to another school or working with them again.
