Betws Primary School fire
Due to an accidental fire caused by a desk top fan, Betws Primary school was in need of emergency accommodation to prevent disruption to pupil education. Wernick Hire managed to provide seven modular buildings consisting of store rooms, a hall, admin building and IT room, 3 double classrooms, a kitchen area and secure storage for maintenance. Wernick Buildings completed the entire project including all necessary foundation work within 7 weeks and the pupils returned from their school holidays on time.
The project manager for the children’s directorate said: “It was imperative that replacement accommodation was put in place as swiftly as possible to maintain community spirit and morale and secure continuity of education for the children. Wernick successfully assisted in delivering these aims.”
Hancocks Cash & Carry
After their head office and depot was hit by flooding after Storm Dennis hit the UK during February 2020, cash and carry specialist Hancocks Cash & Carry needed emergency accommodation after suffered heavy stock losses after being hit by floodwater.
Hancock and Wernick are both clients of Aon UK Limited, an insurance broker, and an Aon representative recommended Wernick to Hancocks for their emergency accommodation requirement. Immediate needs meant a very tight programme. Wernick visited Hancocks Cash & Carry’s offices to advise on project needs the same day as their initial enquiry. An order was also placed that very same day.

North Cardiff Medical Centre fire
When the GP surgery at North Cardiff Medical Centre was maliciously destroyed by fire, the practice manager Sarah Morris understood that a replacement building was urgently needed as patients and staff were valiantly coping with inadequate arrangements. Wernick quickly provided an air conditioned modular building which met the medical centre’s need.
“We received tenders from five accommodation hire companies but only Wernick Hire really understood the urgency of the situation and that an early completion date was critical. They reacted rapidly and within a couple of days of the fire we were inspecting some temporary accommodation at their depot in Briton Ferry.”
Ten Schools in Hull provided with accommodation after flooding
88 schools were affected by the flash floods that swept through Hull and at the worst stages of the emergency there were 30,000 Hull school children that had their education interrupted in some way. Wernick Hire Ltd supplied 44 temporary classrooms to ten of the most severely affected schools.
The temporary accommodation was provided within one month and included a 24m x 12m hall that was delivered in modular sections. Temporary toilet facilities were also provided. Wernick Hire worked day and night to ensure that every child was back in school by the start of the school term.
