Carbon emissions and climate change are one of the biggest challenges facing the construction industry. This is now even more important with the release in November of the Infrastructure Carbon Review.
This document has been produced by the joint Treasury and Green Construction Board review, and calls for clients to embed carbon reduction into procurement of infrastructure. EDF Energy, the Highways Agency, National Grid and Network Rail, have already pledged their commitment. The review adds that government and industry clients should work together to incorporate carbon reduction objectives within all of their infrastructure projects and programmes by 2016.
This has meant many of the UK’s major construction companies have also already pledged their support of the review. Wernick Hire has recently launched GreenSpace site accommodation to help cater for incentives such as this. We have already invested over £7 million in GreenSpace. BAM Construction and Morgan Sindall, are just a couple of major construction companies already benefitting from the energy-saving features of these buildings.
We at Wernick are determined to ensure that all our companies manage their operations in ways that are environmentally sustainable and economically feasible. The benefits of this are clear. As well as increasing value among customers and employees, we recognise that reducing carbon can also save money. GreenSpace helps to demonstrate our company’s commitment to these issues.
