RAF Lakenheath
Requirement
In preparation for the US Military’s newest fighter aircraft, the F-35, RAF Lakenheath will undergo a massive transformation led by engineering and construction firm Kier VolkerFitzpatrick.
On completion of the £160m project, the site will be the first permanent international base for the aircraft in Europe. Over two years, 1,000 personnel will build a cutting-edge flight simulator, maintenance unit, new hangars and storage facilities.
Essential to such an extensive project are pleasant and hard-wearing welfare, catering and office facilities, and welcoming areas for visitors.

Solution
Wernick Hire received the order to install a temporary building – two storeys of AVflex® (anti-vandal) modules, with ample room for work and rest areas.
Built to order modules arrived straight from the manufacturer over a four-month period.
Attractive reception areas, a fully equipped canteen, a mindfulness and relaxation area, meeting rooms, office spaces and locker rooms all provide a fitting base for the operation.
Wernick’s installations team attended Kier VolkerFitzpatrick’s daily management meetings to understand the particularities of a live military setting.
These included document checks, escorts for any incoming vehicles or deliveries and a twelve-week warning for any craning work.
The close relationship between client and Wernick worked well, and the result is a building that the client is proud to call home.
Wernick worked alongside us as part of the team, working within the restrictions and adapting to our systems. Everybody is really impressed with the set up that we have here.
