Morgan Sindall Leicester
Requirement
In the early 1980’s Leicester property development company Charles Street Buildings purchased the Great Central Site off Vaughan Way in the centre of the city. Now, nearly four decades later, the site is one of the many redevelopments that the City Council hopes will make the waterside area “a thriving place to live and work, and help reconnect Leicester to its riverside.”
Charles Street Buildings appointed Morgan Sindall to the project, which includes the construction of two hotels on the site. Between them they will offer over 200 hundred rooms, which is also the number of operatives who’ll be working on site at peak times – enough for the 200 operatives who will be working at the site during peak times. To accommodate such a large workforce, Morgan Sindall approached Wernick Hire to provide their site accommodation.
A bespoke solution was designed and installed by the Wernick team. If the tight site in the middle of Leicester city wasn’t challenge enough, installation of the 20 bays took place in below freezing temperatures.
The two storey building offers welfare on the ground floor and office space above; a common layout for this type of accommodation. However, Wernick did provide a few special extras. “The most obvious addition is the viewing gallery, which lets staff oversee progress on site,” comments Mark Greaves, General Manager with Wernick Hire. “We also provided two external staircases to account for the high number of office staff using the building.”
The depot also provided a number of finishing touches to the interior of the building, including branded manifestation strips to the glazed partitioning in the office area, a phone charging station for site operatives and a specialist ‘Belfast’ sink in the canteen.
