DP World

Requirement

Described in the national press as ‘the London megaport you didn’t know existed’, DP World’s London Gateway is the UK’s newest deep sea container port. Projected to have a larger economic impact than the Olympics, it is the biggest privately funded infrastructure project the UK has ever seen.

Of the planned six berths, two are currently operational, with construction underway on the third. Volkerfitzpatrick have been involved in many aspects of the continuing construction of London Gateway, both for the ports and the 230 hectare logistics park on the site. When they required site accommodation for their staff, they approached Wernick Hire for a solution. “We have a long history of working with Volkerfitzpatrick,” commented Sarah Jones, Major Project Manager for Wernick Hire, “and we were really pleased they asked for our support on such a large project.”

A total of six different buildings were supplied by Wernick, containing office and meeting areas, induction rooms and canteen areas. Welfare was also provided, including specialist facilities to accommodate various religious beliefs.

Wernick’s AVflex GreenSpace range was specified for the project, ensuring robust accommodation without compromising on energy efficiency. Thirty five bays were installed over a single week. Four of the buildings were landed in a configuration that created a central rest area, offering protection from the windy and sandy environment of the site.
