Working in Union with LSBU

Serving over 20,000 students and home to many campus clubs and societies, the Student’s Union at London South Bank University (LSBU) is a vital facility the college could not do without. So when the Student’s Union needed relocating for two years at short notice, the University looked to Wernick Buildings for help.

In order to meet the tight timescale, a modular building solution was called for and the end result was a two storey 1,110 square metres design that includes offices, meeting rooms and a radio station studio on the first floor.

On the ground floor, the new building boasts a reception area and a 370 square metres multi-functional hall flanked by a café, bar and stage area. Suitable for all kinds of events, the hall can be divided using large folding doors, allowing two functions to be hosted simultaneously.

When the move to the new modular building had been completed, the SU’s general manager Mike Hogg had this to say, “We have had very positive feedback from the students and the many outside bodies that hire the hall. Everybody says the same – it doesn’t look like a prefabricated building.” He then added, “I have been involved with this project from the start and can say that it has been designed to a high specification. We are very pleased with the end result.”
