Rose Davies – Senior Purchaser at Wernick Buildings

Rose’s interview

My position is Senior Purchaser for Wernick Buildings and I’m responsible for purchasing everything in the factory.

I purchase everything from the steel, timber, windows and doors that go into our buildings to the tools and equipment used on the lines. I also have to manage the factory’s stock levels and make sure everything is delivered in good time.

It is a very interesting job, as I am involved in every project that goes through the factory. My main challenge is making sure we get the best prices and quality of material and ensuring materials are here on time for the start of production.

I have had a varied career with the Company which started in 1978 when after completing a secretarial course was employed as a Junior Clerk. Initially I worked for Cymru Buildings, who were acquired by a company called Swiftplan in 1984, before Wernick took over in 1989. The position involved printing drawings, filing, typing and making tea. I then became Secretary in the Contracts department, taking minutes of meetings and typing up reports. In 1983 I took some time out to have my son but after only 16 months was asked if I would return to be a Secretary in the Sales department, where I typed up tenders and also priced buildings.

In 1991 I was offered the position of Buyer and I have held this position for nearly 25 years now. I have seen the Company go from strength to strength with the last couple of years being the busiest I have experienced. I am lucky to be able to say I honestly love my job. While I enjoy being part of a successful business the most important thing for me are the people I work with. I don’t think you would stay anywhere for as long as I have unless you’re in a friendly workplace which is definitely how I would describe working for Wernick.

Hobbies and family 

Horses have always been a big part of my life and to unwind on the weekends my daughter Kelly and I take our horses, named Carriad and Bella out riding. Walking my two Labradors and cycling also take up much of my free time.

I also love spending time with my grandsons.
