Brass Band Receives Boost from Wernick Buildings

Johnstone Band Charity Donation

Wernick Buildings were proud to present the Johnstone Band (based in Johnstone, near Glasgow) with a cheque to help with their ongoing community efforts.

The championship section brass band, established in 1834, is one of the oldest brass bands still playing in Scotland but relies on donations to support its activities.

Wernick Buildings recently completed a temporary library for Renfrewshire Council (photos below). Wernick’s community benefits programme seeks to contribute to communities in the areas where building work takes place. We selected the band to receive our help.

Chris Hart, Divisional Manager for Scotland, presented the band with a donation of £1,000 which will allow them to compete in the Scottish Brass Band Championships.

Chris, himself a musician said: “It is great to be able to support community projects like this. Musical funding has been dropping in local authorities across the country in recent years. Community groups like this help to keep the cultural traditions of music alive in these tough financial times. It is a pleasure to help Johnstone Band with their ambitions for the coming year”.
