Wernick rescues school from inferno ashes
When fire destroyed a four-classroom block at Cowbridge Comprehensive School the local education authority had to move quickly to provide replacement accommodation for the 433 displaced students. What further complicated the emergency was that the destroyed classrooms housed the food technology, design technology, textiles and information technology departments. All these rooms had been fitted with expensive equipment and much of this had also been lost in the fire.
From quotation to site completion was accomplished in just 31 working days from the date of the outbreak of the fire by Wernick, whose quotation was the most cost-effective and who were also prepared to guarantee delivery to a tight completion date.
“The rapid turn-round was a big achievement”, stated the school’s systems project officer John Werrett. “We went from a pile of charred remains to four new, fully equipped classrooms in five weeks. It all required a high level of co-operation and timetable flexibility from our schools manager Dave Corcoran and Kath Mallows our design technology head of department with Wernick Hire.”
